Geothermal Heat Pump: How It Works

You’ve probably heard of geothermal heat pumps and heating and cooling systems, but have you ever considered one for your home?

Are you concerned that you don’t know all of the facts about energy efficient heating and cooling?
Making the decision to invest in a geothermal is a big deal, and you should understand the entire process involved before you write a check!

Geothermal heat pumps are self-contained units that efficiently heat and cool your home while providing hot water. Geothermal heat pumps are quiet and reliable, and harness the renewable energy generated by the sun that’s stored in the ground near the Earth’s surface.

Geothermal Heat Pumps Reject Heat during Summer Months

Geothermal systems transfer heat from buildings into the ground to provide cooling, utilizing the constant cool temperature of the Earth to do so. Ground loops transfer the heat to and from the ground through closed loops of plastic pipes buried either horizontally or vertically in the ground below the frost line.

During the summer months, unwanted heat indoors is transferred back outside through the water in the pipes for cooling by the Earth. The cool water is then circulated to the geothermal system indoors to provide efficient air conditioning.

Cut Your Carbon Emissions!

According to Geoexchange.org, “geothermal heat pumps can cut carbon emissions from building energy use by 50%, and total residential site energy consumption is cut in half.”
Not only will a geothermal heat pump save you money, but it will help save the Earth, too!
